Welcome to the Bear Creek Watershed Education Partners Web Site!

Our organization exists to provide support for outdoor education in the Bear Creek and neighboring watersheds.  The Bear Creek Watershed Education Partners (BCWEP) support the following activities:

Service Learning and Watershed Enhancement Projects:  BCWEP provides coordination between agencies and schools to develop and implement watershed service learning projects such as riparian planting, storm drain stenciling, wetland restoration, fishing line recycling, invasive species removal. In addition, BCWEP sponsors annual watershed cleanups.  (Photo - Fishing Line Recycling Bin Installation at Emigrant Lake 2004)

Educator Workshops:  To increase educator knowledge of environmental education techniques, materials and curriculum and encourage development of new outdoor education projects, BCWEP sponsors educator-training sessions. (Photo - Tree Planting Workshop, 2004)

Watershed Monitoring Programs:  BCWEP directly supports watershed-monitoring efforts by providing monitoring equipment, transportation, reference materials, and expertise. Our goal is to promote efforts to better understand our watershed by monitoring water quality, macroinvertebrates, temperature, riparian plants, amphibians, etc. (Photo - Griffin Creek Elementary; Water Quality Monitoring, 2003)

Watershed Education Symposium:  BCWEP sponsors an annual symposium that provides a forum for students and teachers to increase awareness of ongoing watershed education projects via student presentations and hands-on displays. Over 15 agencies and organizations participate in this event for nearly 300 youth (Photo - Salmon T-shirt Printing, 9th Annual Bear Creek Watershed Education Symposium, 2004)

Partnership Support:  When funding is available, BCWEP provides direct support to environmental education programs such as the Southern Oregon University Environmental Education Program, Rogue Valley Council of Governments, Natural Resource Youth Corp, Job Council and other programs.  (Photo - U.S. Forest Service Stone Nursery Constructed Wetland Planting)
